Oregon does not charge sales tax on food or merchandise purchases.

Self-serve gas stations are not allowed in Oregon.  When you pull up to the pump, just stay in your car and wait for the attendant.

Portland is the home of the largest independent bookstore, Powell's City of Books.  Powell's also has the only 3-door elevator west of the Mississippi.
